If you look closely at this photograph you will discover the queen bee sitting amongst other worker bees on this box . They were rescued from a shrub at the start of winter , would you believe. Within a few minutes the queen and the workers had moved within the box. All being well they will survive during this winter in preparation for a busy Spring.
A wonderful example of the industry and energy of the honeybee colony as the evidence shows an enormous and intricately made structure housing maybe 40 000 bees.
At the end of a long hot summer and between blossoming food sources, these bees are keen to retrieve honey from other sources.
These bees were found under a concrete slab in someone’s backyard.
These beautiful creatures are often seen at this time of year (summer) accessing sand and water to make their distinctive igloo-looking mud mounds containing their young.
